It’s almost time for renewal!
Renewal opens on October 1, 2021 and ends on December 1, 2021. Renewals submitted from December 1, 2021 to December 31, 2021 are subject to late fees. Failure to renew your license by January 1st may result in suspension. This year’s renewal cycle includes an important update for ACAO members:
Legislative changes require the ACAO to separate its regulatory college and association functions. Effective January 1, 2022, the ACAO will become the College of Opticians of Alberta (COA) with a single mandate to protect the public through registration and regulation of qualified opticians. As part of this transition process, the ACAO Council has passed a motion to reduce licensure fees by 20% in 2022. The amount of this reduction is based on the elimination of the ACAO’s association-specific activities.
For recent graduates who are waiting to write their national exam, the ACAO offers provisional membership to support your as you launch your new career. For those members who are unemployed, the ACAO offers a non-practicing membership option. This membership category allows you to retain your membership and pay reduced fees until you return to work. Please ensure you update your employment information when you are renewing or log in to your member profile at any time to make changes.
