The new Continuing Competence Program is now active!

It’s a totally different approach to our Continuing Education program and we are here to make it as easy as possible for you. To support you, we have put together articles, videos and step-by-step guides to help you through it. Do you learn from watching a video? You might prefer the step-by-step walkthrough. Do you prefer to be able to refer back to a written document? The Full Information Guide as well as the Login & Assessment Guide might suit you best.

Step 1 – Take the assessments. They are multiple choice questions completed online that will measure your strengths as an optician as well as where your opportunities for further education are. The assessments are timed, so please make sure you set aside enough uninterrupted time to complete them.

Step 2 – Design your own Learning Plan. The competence requirements for the three year cycle include only 6 Learning Goals. The system is designed to help you input your goals clearly and easily. These goals need to be SMART Goals (Specific, Measurable, Action-Oriented, Realistic, Time-Bound). Learn more about SMART goals by reading our SMART Goals Guidelines and Examples Document or watching the SMART Goals Video.

Step 3 – Meet your Goals:

  • Access the Continuing Education Courses that the ACAO offers. They are already accredited to match different competencies
  • Personalize how you fulfill your goals! The increased flexibility of this new program allows you to use other activities that relate back to the competencies.
