BBFE stands for blood and body fluid exposure…

Twelve health regulatory Colleges in Alberta, in partnership with the Government of Alberta, developed a set of resources for health professionals to better understand the risk of exposure and proper management of blood and body fluid exposure (BBFE) available at bbfeab.ca. These resources include a BBFE Online Interactive Algorithm, BBFE Posters (1)(2), BBFE Process Algorithm, and other useful links

The BBFE AB website also includes two online modules which will help you and your organization better understand how to prevent blood or body fluid exposures in your practice and what to do if you or one or your colleagues/employees become exposed.

Each module takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and requires audio capabilities to hear the narration.

Module 1…

Module 1: Protecting Yourself and Preparing Your Workplace identifies the responsibilities with regards to BBFE prevention, potential risks and hazards related to BBFE in the workplace, and controls used to mitigate and eliminate risks in the workplace.

Module 2…

Module 2: Your Post-Exposure Pathway describes what is required for BBFE management for employers and employees, including legal responsibilities, first aid, reporting requirements, seeking medical expertise, obtaining consent, and treatment follow-up.

Continuing education credits…

Each module contains an eight question test. As you work through the module test, keep track of your answers because you will need to enter them manually here in order to submit them to the ACAO for credit.
